Xcaret History
The original plan was to develop a must see attraction in the Cancun and Playa del Carmen areas of the Mayan Riviera. A group of entrepeneurs purchased the site in the 80’s. However, when they started to clear out the area and excavate the land they began to uncover the truely stunning features of the landscape. Cenotes and ancient Mayan ruins were unearthed that were so stunning it just couldn’t be kept private. Thus the current idea for Xcaret was born, an eco park that would be available to everybody to enjoy.
Xcaret Attractions
You can enjoy a lazy river ride through a Mayan village with ruins that are world historical sites, an underground river where you can snorkel and swim in majestic blue waters, and any number or beach activities. The park also includes a coral reef aquariam, dolphins that you can swim with, an island of Jaguars (!!), and any number of local flora and fuana.
The park also presents the use of Temascal and Spa, has over ten restaurantes, dressing rooms, souvenirs and harndicrafts stores, as well as an all-included Grand resort hotel. You can easily reach the park from any number of Playa Del Carmen Hotels.
